The most expensive breakfast I’ve had in my life.

I had a 10:30 AM meeting at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel last Thursday with the Presidential Management Staff, Office of the Presidential Protocol and the Presidential Security Group. One of the highlights of my event (the one that had the ad in international publications) is the attendance and key note speech of the President of the Republic of the Philippines.

I arrived 2 hours early despite the travel time from our route from Alabang-Taft-Makati plus the commute from there to Shaw. I decided to have breakfast at the hotel’s Lobby Lounge. I felt so cool, “like a sir,” if you will, dining with expats, and businessmen and tourists, while mooching off the hotel’s free wireless Internet.

My heart sank when the bill came, though. Almost PHP700 pesos for a chicken wrap and iced coffee! I mean, I saw the prices in the menu, but I was too hungry and lazy to move, plus I needed the fast, free Internet. I will remember to look for an open cafe the next time I’m too early for a meeting.
